Blood pressure of US kids, teens on the rise: study
CHICAGO (AFP) - The blood pressure of US youth has climbed alarmingly since the late 1980s, as the nation's waistlines have bulged, said a study released.

Putting on pounds did not explain the whole increase, but researchers pointed to other factors, such as sedentary lifestyles, as part of the equation, according to the paper in the Journal of the American Medical Association (news - web sites).

The findings were culled from two surveys of 5,582 children. The first was taken in 1988-1994 and another in 1999-2000.
